The answer is pretty simple. Lync control panel is a Silverlight based webpage. Hence, you can login to the control panel from any machine (with Silverlight installed) using a compatible browser using https.
Configure the following in order to make Lync server to use Windows authentication and thereby bypass the login prompt.
- Connect to Lync Control Panel using a broswer. (https://lync server fqdn as I have a Std Edition server).
- Ignore the “Forbidden error” page.
- Click Tools –> Internet options in the browser.
- Navigate to the security tab, select “Local Intranet” and click on “Sites” button.
- Add the Lync Server fqdn url. Click “Close” button and quit the browser.
- Login to the Lync control panel now and your windows login will be used.
- Use the sign out button if you want to login as a different user.
Awesome man! I always wondered why despite checking the box to remember my credentials IE just didnt? But i never bothered to look into it as it was only a minor inconvenience. Now i know why :-)
