Microsoft Viva entered the scene with the promise of improving the productivity of corporate users. It tries to do this by looking in-depth into the work habits. But it has done the reverse in my opinion and 99% of the users find it annoying and delete the emails without even reading them. Some even go to the extend of creating Outlook rules to take care of them automatically.

How to disable Microsoft Viva emails
There are couple of ways to do this, from the user and admin side.
- Administrators can turn off the Viva Insights and Digest emails on the tenant level.
- Users can individually opt-out by selecting the Unsubscribe link at the end of the briefing email.
How can a user disable Viva Insights?
Follow the steps below to disable Viva emails.
Open up one of those annoying emails and scroll all the way down. Click on the Unsubscribe option.
You will be prompted to confirm your choice. Well, hit that ‘Yes’ button hard.
Microsoft will confirm that you have been unsubscribed and will give you the option to resubscribe if you dare ;-)
You have only unsubscribed from the digest emails now. Click on the settings button on the email footer, which will open up the Viva settings page to disable the briefing emails as well.
Click on Briefings within the left hand pane and toggle the daily briefing email to off. Don’t forget to hit the ‘save changes’ button.
If you want to disable all Viva ‘features’, click on Privacy within the left hand pane. Toggle the Viva Insights and Insights Outlook Add-in to off. Click on save changes.
How to disable Viva Insights on the tenant?
As a tenant administrator (GA), you can disable all the above features completely so that your users have less emails to deal with.
Follow the steps below to disable Viva for all users on the tenant level.
Login to Microsoft 365 portal and navigate to Settings -> Org Settings.
Click on Briefing email from Microsoft Viva within the middle pane.
Uncheck the box that says ‘let people in your organization receive briefing emails’ and save the settings.
As we have seen with the user options, you can disable the digest emails and Viva completely if you so wish.
Click on Microsoft Viva Insights within the middle pane.
Uncheck all the options to completely disable Viva or just the Digest Emails depending on your choice and save the settings.
In my personal opinion, Microsoft should not turn on this feature by default. It generates a lot of unnecessary emails and even helpdesk calls in some cases.
Please let me know if you have any questions in the comments section.
I Uncheck the checkboxes: Viva Insights web experience, Digest email, Insights Outlook add-in and inline suggestions, Schedule send suggestions. I Click Save and close the tray, open it again and all marks are marked again. Do i need to wait 24 hours? I’m global admin, so I don’t understand.
Hi Tomas,
Just give it some time. It maybe a lag on the backend replication.
Thanks.
