Event ID 2937 in Exchange 2010 SP2 and how can we fix it?

I came across an issue where there were many errors in the event log with event id 2937 and the description as below.

Process w3wp.exe () (PID=1316). Object [CN=Exchange Routing Group (DWBGZMFD01QNBJR),CN=Routing Groups,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Company,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Company,DC=com]. Property [RoutingMasterDN] is set to value [EdgeServer DEL:3ca012b2-2dec-4f96-ae41-1e5b6eeb779d], it is pointing to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. This property should be fixed as soon as possible.

Event id 2937 in event viewer

I have seen the same event id being reporting by other processes, like Edgetransport.exe, PowerShell.exe, Microsoft.Exchange.RPCClientAccess.Service.Exe, Microsoft.Exchange.ServiceHost.exe, MSExchangeMailboxAssistants.exe etc.

Event id 2937 in application log

The fix in my case was simple.

  • Launch ADSIEdit, navigate to CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Company,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Company,DC=com.
  • Right click the edge server in the error & take the properties.
  • Copy the distinguished name attribute.
  • Navigate to CN=Exchange Routing Group (DWBGZMFD01QNBJR),CN=Routing Groups,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Company,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Company,DC=com and open the properties.

Editing msExchangeRoutingMasterDN using ADSIEdit

  • Paste the copied distinguished name of the edge server in the msExchRoutingMasterDN value.

Edit the attribute using ADSIEdit

  • Click OK.

Another error which usually comes up with the same event id is as shown below.

Process w3wp.exe () (PID=1960). Object [CN=Rajith Enchiparmbil,CN=Users,DC=HEW,DC=com]. Property [HomeMTA] is set to value [hew.com/Configuration/Deleted Objects/Microsoft MTA DEL:5a56fe01-f8be-4016-bba8-acd98cfe6c21], it is pointing to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. This property should be fixed as soon as possible.

In this case, the user’s HomeMTA attribute is pointing to a deleted object in AD. The fix is to run update-recipient cmdlet against the mailbox, which updates the HomeMTA to the correct value.

Run Get-Mailbox Rajith | Update-Recipient to fix the above issue.

If you want to update the HomeMTA for all mailboxes, run Get-Mailbox –Resultsize Unlimited | Update-Recipient

To correct arbitration mailboxes, run Get-Mailbox –Arbitration | Update-Recipient

  1. Hi Rajith

I hope this isn’t too bad of an error..

Process w3wp.exe () (PID=6356). Object [CN=Default Offline Address List,CN=Offline Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=XXX,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=XXX,DC=ca]. Property [PublicFolderDatabase] is set to value [cgc.ca/Configuration/Deleted Objects/Public Folder Store (server)
DEL:05eaa177-86f4-4207-a736-b987477c9890], it is pointing to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. This property should be fixed as soon as possible.

Background:2010 exchange moved from 2003 exchange servers.
My old 2003 exchange server had OAB generator, and I didn’t delete the public folder before I uninstalled exchange.
Did this cause the OAB to be NOT re-homed? FYI- we don’t use Offline Address books in our organization.

    2nd question: Can I run the P/S command> Set-AddressList “All Users” -IncludedRecipients mailboxusers<
after I have tore down the old 2003 exchange servers?
I used P/S before the tear down and not the exchange management shell…

    Thanks!!!!

Getting the above event id 2937, however the server which is showing in the event is removed long back and we don’t have an edge transport server, we only have hub transport servers.

Property [RoutingMasterDN] is set to value [XXXXXXXX
DEL:3978931c-6441-4595-8aea-f0ef279933a0], it is pointing to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. This property should be fixed as soon as possible.

So can I add any of my hub transport servers distinguish name in the Routing group connector attribute msExchRoutingMasterDN ??

    Any help will be appreciated.

Did you try the fix in the article Sunil?

  5. What value be entered if no Edge Transport server exists? We do have a CAS Array (2) Frontends and (2) mailbox servers.
