Message Records Management (MRM) Changes In Exchange 2010 SP1 Beta…

In Exchange 2010 SP1 Beta, the message records management technologies which was part of the 2010 RTM console has been taken out and can only be configured using the shell. The features that have been taken out from the console are Managed Default Folders, Managed Custom Folders and Managed Folders Mailbox Policies. These features have been depreciated and the new ones are Retention Policies and Retention Policy Tags, which are in the 2010 SP1 Beta console.

Let me explain. Managed Default Folders, Managed Custom Folders and Managed Folders Mailbox Policies are part of version one of Message Records Management (MRM 1.0) whereas Retention Policies and Retention Policy Tags belong in MRM 2.0

Both MRM 1.0 and 2.0 are available in 2010 RTM, but Managed Default Folders, Managed Custom Folders and Managed Folders Mailbox Policies are exposed in the console.

In 2010 SP1 Beta, the above three features can only be managed by using the shell. The features exposed in the 2010 SP1 Beta console are Retention Policies and Retention Policy Tags.
