I installed Windows 2008 on my laptop successfully in order to play with Hyper-V. My laptop is 64bit and supports hardware virtualization. The first thing that I tried after that was to connect to my wireless router to update windows. To my surprise, the wireless card was disabled. I tried enabling it, but it just wouldn’t do it. After playing around for a while, I found the solution to my problem.
In Windows 2008, you need to install “Wireless LAN Service” feature from Server Manager to connect to a wireless network. Go to Server Manager -> Features -> Add Features -> Select the last feature named Wireless LAN Service and click Install. Once the feature was installed, wireless card was enabled & could connect to my router.
Just a quick note in case anyone is trying the same!
